This QA role has several core requirements and will require you to be able to be good at several skills at the same time. First, you need to understand “exploratory” testing of networking software. Many of our products are composed of several components, and you need to be part systems administrator as well as test engineer. Second, after you’ve understood the product or feature, you will almost always need to write a program that performs that test, significantly enhance an existing test framework or expand on the exploratory testing that has been done. This is not your traditional automation role where you are given a detailed API spec and are expected to write some tests that exercise that spec.
The engineer will work closely with the development team to make sure that identified problems are resolved, and will also be responsible for setting up and maintaining test labs. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for reviewing and helping to maintain the product bug queues.
The ideal candidate will have strong a strong testing background as well as system and network administration skills. Strong scripting skills (shell, Perl, Python) are required. Extensive experience with DNS and/or DHCP is highly desired, as well as experience with Linux and/or Solaris. Attention to detail is important as well as good problem solving skills.
The candidate should be comfortable working in an Agile development environment and should be able to work with other team members to reach consensus on key issues.
Requirements:
Experience with software testing
Proven ability to translate detailed requirements and technical documentation into Test Plans and Test Cases
Knowledge of Python or Perl
