Without the Domain Name System (DNS), the Internet and all derived Internet Protocol (IP)-based applications simply cannot function. Nominum’s legacy in high-quality Internet technology is deep, beginning with their Chairman and Chief Scientist, Dr. Paul Mockapetris, who invented the DNS in 1983.
In 1999, Nominum was founded to address the lack of commercial-grade DNS and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) solutions. Nominum builds products on unique technology that leverages the DNS and DHCP; giving your organization peace of mind that their network services will always be up and running and secure.
Increasingly fixed broadband service providers, mobile carriers and enterprises face greater security challenges and more strenuous demands on their networks. To meet those needs, the solutions by Nominum are designed to address specific business problems leveraging a combination of their products. Nominum Solutions solve business problems such as: subscriber engagement, outbound anti-spam, Voice over IP (VoIP), 3G and 4G mobile services, spectrum efficiency, and latency, among others; keeping your infrastructure at peak performance to enhance your brand and bottom line.
Intelligent DNS
The DNS is a naming system for resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most importantly, it translates domain names in a meaningful way to humans from the numerical identifiers associated with networking.
The way that Intelligent DNS systems work is very simple and takes advantage of the fact that virtually every Internet Protocol (IP) application relies on the DNS to function. Intelligent DNS performs all of the normal functions of regular DNS systems today. What separates an intelligent DNS system is the ability to simply look at DNS requests coming from hosts on a network, and make decisions based upon the enterprise security policy before responding to the original request.
Intelligent DHCP
DHCP is a network configuration protocol for hosts on IP networks. Computers that are connected to IP networks must be configured before they can communicate with other hosts. The most essential information needed is an IP address, and a default route and routing prefix. DHCP eliminates the manual task by a network administrator. It also provides a central database of devices that are connected to the network and eliminates duplicate resource assignments.
Demand for IP addressing services is increasing. More and more devices such as smartphones and tablets need to connect to the Internet via fixed, mobile and Wi-Fi networks. To meet this current and future connectivity Nominum’s Intelligent DHCP technology provides performance, scalability and 100% availability to Network Operators. Our technology augments basic DHCP operations with a high-performance architecture, open interfaces for integration with Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), or other provisioning systems, failover capabilities and future proof IPv6 (DHCPv6) support to help achieve optimal service levels.
Analytics
With all Internet traffic touching the DNS, Nominum is able to help you sort through the data, monitor the use of your bandwidth and provide the best experience for your customers.
