ENUM

The growth in VoIP and other IP based advanced services is spurring the adoption of ENUM, an emerging standard for mapping telephone numbers to IP addresses. ENUM enables communication service providers to interconnect IP calls directly and efficiently instead of using the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). ENUM’s potential application is much broader than VoIP alone; it can route and connect all kinds of advanced services, and fill an IP-application routing directory function in next-generation networks.

ENUM is based on the Domain Name System (DNS), but poses stringent requirements that few existing DNS servers can meet, including:
•    Massive scalability to support hundred of millions of subscribers and Local Number Portability (LNP)  information
•    Support for large NAPTR record sizes
•    Consistent low latency responses (<1 ms) to fit within the call connection budget
•    Scalable performance under load
•    Real-time updates
•    Integration with query/provisioning systems

Nominum meets these needs with Navitas, a dedicated IP-application routing directory server optimized for carrier-grade environments. Navitas offers massively scalable performance, high service levels and flexible interfaces for provisioning and management.
