What is Vantio?
Vantio is Nominum’s new advanced DNS server that enables broadband providers to deliver new services by leveraging DNS as a key control point in the network. It consists of a Vantio base server and optional service delivery modules.
The Vantio base server is an extensible DNS server with the world’s fastest caching name server technology embedded in it. The carrier may add additional service delivery modules to this base server for new DNS-based services. The first service delivery module – called NXR – enables a Web error redirection service that enhances subscriber Internet experience and helps broadband providers generate new revenue streams

How do I use Vantio if I already have a DNS server?
Vantio is a simple replacement for existing DNS servers in the broadband provider network, whether the existing servers are implemented using open source DNS software or Nominum’s carrier-grade CNS software. Vantio servers are embedded with the world’s fastest caching name server technology from Nominum, and offer extensibility to enable new provider-centric services. The provider simply needs to replace existing DNS software running on their servers and install Vantio software.

What hardware is Vantio supported on?
Vantio is a software solution, and is supported on a broad range of server hardware and operating system platforms. The most commonly used server platforms include SUN, HP and IBM with Intel, Sparc and Opteron processor technologies. Solaris, Linux and FreeBSD are the most broadly used operating system platforms by Nominum customers.
