Overview
Nominum provides highly scalable, reliable and secure DNS and DHCP servers.
These products were developed by Nominum engineers based on lessons they learned
from writing BIND (version 9) and ISC-DHCP (version 3). These open source
products were written as reference implementation of the protocol specifications
primarily to demonstrate those specifications were implementable. In
contrast, Nominum products are commercial grade and focus on carrier-class
requirements and have scalability, reliability, availability, and performance
characteristics that are unmatched on the Internet.
Nominum products feature:
- Leading performance and scalability
Nominum products are designed for high scalability and low
response latency. They make optimum usage of available DNS/DHCP resources and
avoid all-in-memory implementations that degrade or fail in unexpected ways as
resource management needs grow.
- No downtime
Most DNS or DHCP servers cannot be reconfigured
online without a shutdown and restart, have lengthy startup times while they
read all their data into memory, and will not recover from spikes in traffic or
Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Nominum products were designed to avoid these
fundamental flaws.
- Superior security
Securing DNS is getting more and more attention
as that critical service is increasingly targeted by hackers. Nominum products
include the most up-to-date security features for data authentication,
query/response validation, logging and auditing.
- State of the art implementations
Nominum products were written
from the ground up using advanced software engineering practices along with
rigorous testing to insure the products meet the quality standards required
for supporting critical infrastructure services. Open source
products typically have to contend with a wide quality range when
incorporating contributions from the developer community.
- Driven by customer requirements
Nominum's products, being driven
by the needs of our customers, focuses on the critical requirements faced by
organizations who depend on their name and address infrastructures to get their
business done. We implement the functionality and security enhancements in the
timeframe required by our customers. Other products are either driven by the
personal opinions of individual implementors or by the pronouncements of
standards organizations. In many cases, these products actually aren't driven as
the companies and/or organizations providing the products have other priorities.
Release schedules for these products are rarely documented, and when they are,
those schedules are rarely met.
- Support
Nominum products are backed by 7x24 support by talented
engineers who pioneered DNS and DHCP and actively lead the advancement of
Internet name and address technologies.
