Paul Mockapetris to Present Session: Harmonizing the World of IP Communications with ENUM Technologies

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 17, 2006 – Nominum, the leading provider of network naming and addressing solutions, today announced that Paul Mockapetris, chairman and chief scientist, will present a session at the 2nd Annual ENUM Summit 2006 on April 20, 2006. Mockapetris’ presentation will provide insight into how ENUM will bring harmony to the world of IP communications. The summit runs from April 18-20, 2006 and is being held at the Radisson Hotel in Boston.

The ENUM standard links traditional phone numbers and converged IP networks, , which allows VoIP to use the DNS for signaling. However, today’s DNS implementations suffer from latency, scalability and privacy issues when dealing with ENUM and carrier requirements.

Mockapetris will provide insight on how to overcome these issues by leveraging ENUM so that carriers are best prepared for current and future implementations. His presentation, titled “Harmonizing the World of IP Communications with ENUM Technologies,” will discuss how ENUM will enable IP-based applications like mail, web, voice and other media speak similar control "languages" so that applications can take advantage of commonalities. His presentation will also address levels of performance that carriers can expect from initial ENUM implementations, the ENUM end game, and the future of the distribution of authority in the internet.

“ENUM is clearly instrumental in moving the internet telephony forward,” said Paul Mockapetris, chairman and chief scientist. “As service providers adopt ENUM, they will also seek to adopt solutions such as application-level routing directories to interconnect VoIP and other communication services directly and efficiently over IP networks. I look forward to sharing Nominum’s perspective on the need for ENUM and the future of application-level routing directories in the successful deployment of VoIP services.”

Nominum recently launched Nominum Navitas, the industry’s first complete solution designed and optimized for the routing demands of converging telecommunications networks. Nominum Navitas is an ENUM-based IP-application routing directory server that enables the connection of advanced IP-based communications services between separate networks. This solution fills an essential role in emerging VoIP peering architectures and IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), providing greater visibility into the routing infrastructure and accelerating the delivery of high quality, low cost VoIP and advanced services.

Paul Mockapetris’ session takes place on April 20, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. in the Radisson Hotel Boston.
