Nominum Strengthens IBM’s Next Generation Network Solutions Sep 19 2005 REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 19, 2005 - Nominum, the leading provider of carrier-class IP address infrastructure solutions, today announced ENUM carrier grade scalability for Service Providers delivering IMS. Using Nominum's ENUM solution running on seven IBM eServer BladeCenter systems in a single BladeCenter chassis, the combined solution was able to load more than 200 million NAPTR records and respond to over 250,000 queries per second with a response time of 1 millisecond per query. By comparison, open source solutions including BIND, DJBDNS, and PowerDNS failed during their attempt to scale past 50 million records. Leveraging Nominum’s ENUM solution, IBM adds industry leading ENUM server performance and availability for IP-based services to its extensive list of IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) capabilities. The aim of IMS is to deploy a carrier-class network infrastructure that can support the delivery of a wide range of advanced services over-time with reduced operating and capital expenditures. These demands are requiring new technologies such as ENUM to handle increasingly large numbers of records, increasingly high traffic volumes and constant change and raising the bar for DNS and DHCP services. Carriers and service providers looking to deploy IMS architectures must validate the ability to scale over time and handle hundreds of millions of records, tens of thousands of queries per second, all with extremely low latencies. “The complexity of today’s networks is requiring a fundamental shift to reliance on software and services to drive next generation networks,” said Jim Pertzborn, vice president Telecommunications Industry, IBM Systems and Technology Group. “Our relationship with Nominum strengthens our capabilities in delivering carrier-class infrastructure to enable our customers IMS strategy.” “To deploy next generation services, communications service providers demand an always-on infrastructure that can handle multiple forms of network traffic, to both differentiate and expand offerings for customers,” said Tom Tovar, vice president of business development, Nominum. “The combination of Nominum’s Solution, including DNS, DHCP and ENUM, with IBM BladeCenter provides industry-leading performance and latency critical to delivering on the promise of IMS.” Nominum provides DNS, DHCP and ENUM solutions to major carriers and service providers around the globe. Nominum’s carrier-grade solutions on IBM eServer BladeCenter™ uniquely address the requirements of the IMS platform and next-generation communication services, with support for emerging standards, scalable performance, and interoperability for integration with other platform components.
