Nominum Demonstrates Industry’s First Commercial, High-Performance ENUM for VoIP Solution at SUPERCOMM 2005

Nominum Authoritative Name Server Offers Telephony Service Providers a Superior, Cost Effective Solution for VoIP Call Routing

SUPERCOMM 2005, CHICAGO, IL. – June 6, 2005 – Nominum, the leading provider of IP address infrastructure solutions, is demonstrating the Industry’s first commercial high-performance ENUM for VoIP solution for telephony service providers during SUPERCOMM 2005. The Nominum Foundation Authoritative Name Server reduces operational and hardware costs by more than 75% for VoIP service providers and scales to over 200 Million records. In addition, Nominum offers superior latency, scalability, security and availability versus competing ENUM implementations using open source DNS servers.

ENUM solves the routing issues at interconnect points between the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) to VoIP network and VoIP network to VoIP network. ENUM also simplifies the network infrastructure for converged services, including multimedia messaging, video on demand and data transmission. Telephony service providers are typically using forms of DNS software that were never designed to support carrier-grade ENUM requirements and are incapable of consistently meeting the demands of an always-on, high-availability voice network.

“VoIP traffic is set to grow rapidly this decade, exposing many shortcomings of existing DNS deployments,” said Chris Risley, chief executive officer of Nominum. “Telecommunications providers will have to deal with hundreds of millions of ENUM phone numbers, while protecting against DNS query loss, high latency, and outages. We designed our products to meet these requirements and enable the delivery of converged services.”

Nominum’s ENUM solutions have recently set record performance benchmarks and gained broader industry recognition:

·    Running on commodity hardware*, Nominum Foundation Authoritative Name Server (ANS) set a record for ENUM performance and answered to 45,000 queries per second against 200M NAPTR records with an average latency of 2 milliseconds. Nominum ANS outperformed by as much as four times all other tested software.

·    In May, Nominum received the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Technology Leadership Award, 2005, in recognition for its superior carrier grade ENUM solution. The endorsement was based on findings published in Frost & Sullivan's May 2005 report “ENUM Market Insight Report”.

Nominum’s ENUM solution demonstration can be found at booth 67088J in the SIP Pavilion at SUPERCOMM. Detailed information on the performance benchmarks is available on the Nominum web site at www.nominum.com

* DNS servers were running on the following configuration: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0, Intel Pentium XEON 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160GB Raid 5 Disk array, Gigabit Ethernet Interface.
