DNS Architect Paul Mockapetris Named Chairman of Nominum Board of Directors
Jun 29 2001
Redwood City, Calif. – June 29, 2001 – Today, Nominum, the acknowledged leader
in development and support of Internet naming and address management solutions,
announced the appointment of Paul Mockapetris to the role of chairman of the
board of directors. As the principle architect of the Domain Name System (DNS)
and active participant in its evolution, Mockapetris offers strategic direction
and provides insight surrounding Nominum’s current and future DNS software
products and service offerings. DNS is at the base of every e-mail and web
access today and may well be involved in every phone call and mobile data access
tomorrow. DNS software lets users locate other computers on the Internet by
typing in a domain name (such as www.nominum.com) instead of having to use
numeric Internet Protocol addresses.
"Paul’s participation on the
Nominum Board of Directors has provided valuable insight in the development
direction of our Identity Series products," said Will Thomas, president and CEO
of Nominum. "As chairman, he will play an active roll in creating next
generation Internet infrastructure solutions."
Known as a pragmatic
visionary, Mockapetris has applied his technical expertise to help several
Internet businesses off the ground. He was director of engineering and the
second employee at @Home. In addition, Mockapetris served as CTO at several
start-ups including, Software.com, Fiberlane (Cerent and Siara) and Urban Media
Communications.
