IT Security Track: Keeping Track of the Bad Guys: Practical Black and White Lists
Paul Mockapetris, inventor of DNS and chief scientist at Nominum, joins top telecommunications companies at Interop to discuss combating network attackers through the use of black lists
WHO BENEFITS: Large enterprise networks vulnerable to malicious spam
DESCRIPTION: How can network administrators combat spam attacks? An unglamorous, but popular and practical method is blacklists that target attackers. Augmented with whitelists of known good guys, blacklists allow administrators to protect network infrastructure such as email servers routers, and web clients.
This session will expose attendees to the latest thinking in this critical area including challenges that need to be addressed such as tracking attackers that change location frequently. Versatile and cost-effective approaches that complement existing enterprise security systems will be covered, with an emphasis on new techniques that have been used successfully in very large networks.
Verizon, Comcast and Nominum will discuss deployment scenarios as well as recent technological innovations.
