How does SKYE Authority work?

When you decide to have an online presence, you first choose and register one or more domain names for your business and build a Website. The role of DNS doesn’t stop after a name is chosen; that’s when it starts. It serves as the main directory (like an Internet phone book) sending all users looking for your business to your web site.

SKYE Authority utilizes Nominum’s most advanced authoritative DNS software – Authoritative Name Server Premier (ANSP). ANSP comes ready with the most advanced security, reporting and monitoring capabilities of any of Nominum’s authoritative software. It also leverages Nominum’s proprietary multi-mastering technology that allows any server to function as the authoritative master for the other DNS systems in the service cluster. It fully supports DNSSEC and has the added capability of supporting Nominum proprietary link security mechanism, called DNSAUTH. DNSAUTH is a secondary security mechanism that encrypts the DNS data transmitted as part of the query-response action of DNS.

With SKYE Authority, provisioning is simple and easy. As a primary authoritative DNS service, authoritative domain data can be provisioned directly into the cloud via an easy to use web provisioning and management portal. This information is then propagated automatically to all SKYE data centers around the world. As a secondary authoritative DNS service, authoritative domain data can be provisioned and configured in Nominum’s ANSP/ANS servers in the network, transferring this data automatically to all SKYE data centers around the world. Either way, fast and efficient propagation is a cornerstone of SKYE Authority. Now, domain owners or hosting companies no longer have to decide between hosted services or in-house software. With SKYE Authority, they can get the best of both worlds.
