SKYE Network Protection Service
“Don’t spend good money supporting bad traffic”
The SKYE Network Protection Service provides a real-time feed of bot-related malicious domains generated by our proprietary systems to mitigate these network level threats. Using SKYE Network Protection Service, botnet command & control activities are abated and propagation blocked. Used in combination with Nominum’s Centris™ server and Vantio® MDR, SKYE Network Protection Service is part of an overall solution to protect networks.
Network operators have a strong need to keep their network clean. Infected subscriber machines send spam and launch DDoS attacks, which wastes network bandwidth and pollutes the Internet. This unwanted traffic requires more money for network-equipment; degrades user experience (such as when the network is slow or they can’t send legitimate email) and damages the operator’s brand. Most “lists” of botnet domains aren’t implemented because they don’t detect many malicious sites and contain some “good” domains that would cause legitimate traffic to be blocked.
How SKYE Network Protection Service works
SKYE Network Protection Service is part of a complete solution for scalable, real time identification of and prevention against malicious botnet-related activity. As part of the SKYE Network Protection Service, botnet domains are validated and classified by sophisticated algorithms developed by Nominum’s dedicated research team of security and networking experts with the goal of minimizing false positives while maximizing protection offered to the network.
NPS threat lists are updated as often as every minute and served over secure connections across the Internet to Nominum Centris servers within the Operator’s network. When a user attempts to access a site that has been identified as malicious, instead of merely providing the IP address of the bad site and allowing the malicious activity to continue, MDR can utilize up-to-the-minute data sourced from NPS to decide what should be blocked, and then record and report the activity. Network intelligence gathered from NPS is available in iView so trends can readily be observed and reports can be generated in seconds.
